MISTO®
A Short History
Bethel, CT- It was over ten years ago that entrepreneur
Tom Risch first began developing his idea for a device that would
produce a fine mist of real, gourmet olive oil. Risch refused to
use the chemical propellants found in commercial oil sprays; instead,
he insisted on creating a sprayer that could use the finest gourmet
olive oils so people would know exactly what they were putting on
their food.
A long-time gourmet cook, Risch realized that
misting oil - instead of pouring it - over salad, vegetables, meat,
fish or poultry would greatly reduce the amount of fat in one's
diet because so much less oil is consumed.
As a direct descendant of Eli Whitney, the inventor
of the Cotton Gin, Tom Risch is a perfectionist. It took ten years
of trial and error, of almost-but-not-quite, until at last he deemed
his new product ready to make its debut. So, in 1997, MISTO®,
The Gourmet Olive Oil Sprayer® appeared: a sleek,
brushed aluminum cylinder with a plastic liner holding one-third
of a cup of oil and producing a fine mist of choice, gourmet olive
oil. Because of the extremely even coverage that MISTO® provides,
all the flavor of the olive oil comes through in each bite- with
much less fat. And, the customer gets to choose which oil is best
for their cooking needs. Risch then added a new model in a beautiful,
high quality stainless steel.
MISTO's acclaim was immediate and enormous. So were the sales. U.S.
housewares retailers lauded MISTO® as one
of the best-selling new housewares products of all time, while media
from Good Morning America to The New York Times profiled
the new product.
The year 1998 also marked the debut of the delightful
MISTO® Martini, The Perfect Vermouth Sprayer.
This unique and ideal gift for cocktail lovers proves that the perfect
martini is neither-shaken or stirred - it's sprayed!
A few years later there was breaking news from
MISTO® that they had improved the Brushed
Aluminum MISTO® model by increasing the volume.
The new sprayer now holds 20% more, so our customers have to refill
their MISTO's less often. The additional volume also allows for
greater pressurization, so now the MISTO®
sprays "one third" longer. The beautiful high quality
look of the MISTO® has stayed the same. "We're
particularly proud that our sprayers are environmentally sound,"
says Tom Risch, "Unlike disposable non-stick cooking sprays,
our product is refillable and doesn't contribute to our landfill
problems.
Today, MISTO® remains
not only the original Gourmet Olive Oil Sprayer, but still
the best and the most popular. Clearly, Tom Risch
does not intend to stop until he's provided today's home with every
inventive and useful new product possible. So he is now launching
his new kitchen gadget Snapi "The Single-handed Server".
